The issue of the ideal design is crucial when it comes to being a successful competitor, mainly because of increasing quality standards and growing cost pressure in light of globalized markets.
These conditions force the use of suitable CAE tools in an early stage of development to facilitate design optimization, for example with regard to stiffness, weight or dynamic behavior.
In topology optimization, the shape of a component "grows" out of a construction space, taking into account the corresponding boundary conditions. When that shape is conversed into a CAD model, a next step allows to further reduce stresses and strains. Any boundary conditions, such as production constraints, can be taken into account. By applying parameter optimization, for example, wall thicknesses or dimensions of beam structures can be tuned.
